A study released Thursday by marketing analysis platform Adtaxi asserts that 70% of the 1,009 adults surveyed in the United States plan to view Super Bowl 60 on multiple screens. Digital video (39%) and social media (33%) were the top second-screen tastes.
Additionally, 53% of respondents told Adtaxi that they planned to bet on the game. Around 20% said they would wager at least $1,000. The American Gaming Association (AGA) projected on Friday that $1.76 billion would be wagered on the Super Bowl.
Those figures sound wonderful to Sportradar Senior Vice President of Fan Engagement Patrick Mostbeock because they represent an opportunity to put more in-game bets in front of customers watching an event that drew a record 127.7 million viewers in 2025.
Sportradar, which provides data and odds to legal sportsbooks in the U.S., found that roughly half of the U.S. betting handle came in-play by the end of 2025. The Super Bowl provides a perfect test lab to assess what both frequent and casual bettors like.
“Big events like the Super Bowl, or any other big events that we have coming up this year, like the Olympics or the FIFA World Cup, and so on, I think those are still events that are really watched on big screens and maybe even watched not just alone, but as we all do it ourselves, in bigger groups and with friends,” Mostbeock told InGame. “Obviously, the phone plays an important part, typically not as a device to watch, but to have kind of a secondary activity. And I think we fully believe from a sporting perspective that this is where we can drive additional value for the whole ecosystem with additional in-play opportunities.”
Sportsbook app downloads spike
According to a Citizens JMP Securities report, 523,000 sportsbook apps were downloaded on Super Bowl Sunday last year, marking a 45% increase from the previous finale, and validating the game as a key date for customer acquisition. Granted, those new customers don’t always hang around as frequent bettors, but from the industry’s standpoint, at least the introduction has been made.
Citizens projects wagering on Super Bowl 60 to drop by 2% this year from last, for a handle of about $1.5 billion that if not validates, does mirror, the AGA figure.
The reason, from the report: “Missouri is the only active online sports betting state that was not live for the Super Bowl last year; therefore, we expect overall promotional investment as a percent of handle to decline [year-over-year]. That said, the comp will be tough across the broader industry with gaming operators holding around 17% last year, well above a one standard deviation move. The decline in handle is driven by less of a story line this year with the Chiefs/Eagles boasting key players like Patrick Mahomes and Saquon Barkley and notable figures like Taylor Swift, while prediction markets, already seeing impressive volume on the game, are creating some pressure in the legal market.”

Not funny, says Seattle fans
Those rascals at DraftKings, which just so happens to be based in Boston, which is in Massachusetts, just like Foxborough, where the Patriots play, concocted a knife-twister of a prop bet combo. The wagers reference Malcolm Butler’s game-sealing interception of Russell Wilson at the 1-yard line with 20 seconds left in an eventual 28-24 New England victory over the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX:

Somewhere, Marshawn Lynch is not smiling.
