Michigan’s total online sports betting handle in December fell 18.7% from November, according to a revenue report from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).
December handle came in $512.9 million, a precipitous drop from the $631.1 million captured in November.
The combined total iGaming and online sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) figure for December was $357.87 million, with $296.74 million coming from iGaming and $61.13 million from sports betting. While iGaming AGR increased by 27.2%, sports betting dipped 5.6% compared to November.
Total handle was also down for the calendar year, from $5.5 billion in 2024, but AGR was up by $60.9 million year-over-year.
Inside Michigan’s wagering tabulations
Divining the reasons for the sports betting slump are impossible, given that the MGCB doesn’t breakout wagers by sports. Perhaps it was the Lions’ fault. The defending NFC North champions lost three of four games in December, and failed to make the playoffs despite high expectations.
Still, online sports betting contributed $4.2 million in taxes and fees to the state School Aid Fund. Online sports betting contributed $27.1 million to the kindergarten-12th grade fund in total, in 2025. Three Detroit casinos reported paying the city $8.8 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees.
For the year, Michigan online sportsbooks generated $5.5 billion in handle statewide. Motor City Casino in Detroit (FanDuel) led with $1.9 billion in tickets, with Bay Mills Indian Community (DraftKings) at $1.6 billion.
Those results, put Michigan squarely in sync with the rest of the nation, where these gambling companies combine to control upwards of 80% if the mobile sports betting market.
