Michigan and Pennsylvania sportsbooks took in a ton more bets in September than the month before — thank you, NFL and college football — but revenue grew much more slowly.
Michigan’s online handle climbed 64.9% from August, while Pennsylvania’s combined online and retail handle increased 60.2%. However, adjusted revenue in Michigan rose just 2.9%, and Pennsylvania’s taxable revenue increased 13.7%, with promotional deductions more than doubling.
New Jersey’s September operator numbers, meanwhile, showed nearly $77 million in combined online and retail sportsbook revenue.
Michigan
Michigan’s online sportsbooks handled $544.8 million in September action, up from $330.5 million in August, according to the report issued by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Gross revenue reached $55.5 million, compared with $34.6 million a month earlier. Adjusted gross revenue barely moved, rising to $24.9 million from $24.2 million.
The difference between gross revenue and AGR widened to $30.6 million from $10.4 million.
FanDuel led the online market with $186.3 million in wagers and $16.7 million in gross revenue. DraftKings followed with $153.7 million in handle and $14.2 million in gross revenue.
Those top two operators’ AGR results went in opposite directions. FanDuel’s fell to $8.3 million from $9.3 million in August, while DraftKings’ rose to $6.7 million from $6 million.
BetMGM finished third in handle at $56.6 million, with AGR of $5.1 million, followed by Fanatics Sportsbook at $48.9 million in handle and $3.3 million in AGR.
Bet365 took $30.1 million in bets and generated $4.7 million in gross revenue, but it reported an AGR loss of $1.3 million.

Bet365 finished third with $6.6 million, narrowly ahead of BetMGM’s $6.3 million. Fanatics Sportsbook reported $4.9 million.

Pennsylvania sportsbooks handled $798.7 million in September wagers, up from $498.5 million in August, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s monthly report.
Revenue before promotional deductions rose to $73.5 million from $50.5 million. But promotional credits increased to $28.8 million from $11.1 million, leaving $44.7 million in taxable revenue.
FanDuel led with $281.8 million in online wagers and $26 million in revenue before promotional deductions. Its $10.7 million in promotional credits left $15.3 million in taxable revenue, slightly below August’s $15.4 million despite the increase in betting.
